Temple Sophia is a mystic, gnostic fellowship

Temple Sophia Unity Fellowship is a mystic, Sophianic fellowship. We are not a church. We are not affiliated with any religion. We have no formal membership. We have no creeds, no dogma, and no orthodox scripture.

We are a spiritual fellowship. A fellowship is simply a group of people who come together for a mutual interest, activity, or experience. In the case of Temple Sophia Unity Fellowship, our mutual interest is our spirituality. While we are each on our own personal, unique path of spiritual growth, enlightenment, and gnosis, we share the same desire for spiritual growth. We share a desire to belong to a community of mystic seekers, just like ourselves, where we feel welcome, loved, safe, appreciated and cared about. We share a desire to learn and share what we learned and experienced on our spiritual path and learn from others as they share their mystic path.

Temple Sophia Unity Fellowship regularly posts all upcoming events for not only our fellowship, but also the events and activities of other trusted groups and organizations.  Please see the Alliance in Light pages for more information.

Mysticism, Gnosticism and the Spiritual Journey Home

What exactly does it mean to be a mystic, gnostic fellowship? Mysticism and gnosticism are terms that are quite literally open to personal interpretation. While there is a textbook definition for both terms, they are just that. But for the purposes of this writing, we are going to go with the most common and accepted definition of both terms.

The definition of a spiritual mystic is someone who seeks direct, personal experience of the divine or the sacred through deep contemplation, meditation, and inner practices. They seek a deeper understanding of existence and the nature of reality. It is truly a very personal, individual, and unique path of self-realization and self-discovery.

The definition of the spiritual gnostic, in many ways, overlaps the definition the spiritual mystic.  A spiritual gnostic seeks direct personal communion with the divine. They often explore ancient texts, mystical traditions, and inner spiritual practices on the spiritual path to gnosis. It emphasizes inner awakening, self-discovery, and the realization of one's true nature beyond material or worldly illusions. Ultimately, gnosis is the inner realization that we are truly immortal, eternal, divine being experiencing one more human life on our journey toward remembrance and self-realization. Gnosis is that point at which we achieve Oneness between our mortal human aspect and our true being as an immortal, divine spark of God, or Pure Divine Consciousness.

In essence, mysticism is the path, and gnosis is the desired end result. But the path is literally a lifelong journey that few achieve in just one lifetime.

It was the mission of the ancient mystery schools, wisdom traditions and arcane secret societies to teach its members, often through very rigorous, difficult and dangerous training, to embody the greatest mystery teaching ever known, you are gods incarnate. Of all who entered these various wisdom centers and societies, very few achieved the status of adept. The adepts who did emerged from these wisdom centers were known throughout the world as sorcerers and magicians due to their ability to perform seemingly miraculous feats and manifestations. Jesus and Mary Magdalene were such adepts and embodied the true essence of gnosis.  Jesus, and later Mary Magdalene's, teachings repeatedly emphasized this very wisdom teaching. While the orthodox Christian scriptures have largely been sanitized of this powerful truth from their text, apocryphal and gnostic texts, such as Gospels of Phillip, Thomas and Mary Magdalene remain witnesses to this eternal truth.

It is this eternal truth that The Sovereign Order of the Mystic Knights of St Mary Magdalene, our sister order, and other groups and orders, such as those found in our Alliance in Light pages, teach and embody.  If you a seeker after spiritual growth, please refer to these groups and orders for guidance. Your spirituality truly matters, and you are not alone.

Disclaimer

Temple Sophia Unity Fellowship, while espousing and embodying the term, "gnostic" and "gnosis", does not follow nor adhere to the beliefs and tenants of the early Christian Gnostic Faith. We do not believe in a fallen Sophia, nor the existence of a Demiurge as a false creator God.  Temple Sophia Unity Fellowship uses these terms strictly as reference to the very individual spiritual practice of connecting with one's own inner divinity, and Divine Pure Consciousness itself.  It is not our mission to teach anyone what to belief or how to live in accordance with their individual beliefs. We are not here to debate the truth of any spiritual practice. We believe in personal accountability. Your spirituality and practice are totally yours to work out for yourself
